I have a question regarding WotF (I hope it's Ok to post it in this thread). The rules say I can't participate if I am a published author. If I self-publish a story on Smashwords, does it count as published or not?

No. Self-publishing (almost by definition) is not "professional" publication.
The Contest is open only to those who have not professionally published a novel or short novel, or more than one novelette, or more than three short stories, in any medium. Professional publication is deemed to be payment, and at least 5,000 copies, or 5,000 hits. --http://www.writersofthefuture.com/contest-rules

Hmm, I forget what is considered a shorter story for this thread?
Mine for Q2 is not as long as others I've sent in but I wouldn't say it's short. Since I've written stories under 2,000-- even under 1000-- and a couple around 200 words not to mention two that came in at 25 I now know what short is.

Wow, snapper, I just noticed this thread now, and it is right up my alley! All my stories are short; if I hit 4k I feel like I've run a marathon (which is hard on the smoked-out lungs of a cool kid)!
So, what kind of dates are we looking at for Q2? I'm working on a second draft that's going to come in around 2500 words, maybe 3k max. Very short, I know, but I HM'd with a 2100-worder, so I'm not going to rule it out entirely. I also have something else started that I expect to be longer, but I'm not sure if I want to tackle it right now (I have a 4 week old baby), it just depends on the time line.

And timetables are for squares, but we have a loose one of early next month. Basically, when you get to it, send it to everyone. Just paste your name to the list so we know who to send our stuff to.

1) Yep. 2) Probably, but I won't know until I start outlining the Q2 story.
3) I suppose if it looks like Big Foot, the artist was just working with what he had - a hairy canvas.
