Annie headed this last year, and I think it was a real success - I had a blast. Annie's out this month focusing on RL and school things, so if she doesn't mind, I'd be happy to organize it.
To participate in the Hatrack December Gift Exchange: E-mail me at katepilkington AT yahoo.com. Include the following:
Intent to participate
Mailing address (if you are at college, please include both school and home addresses)
Favorite Hatrack moment (for the game)
Nov. 29 1. I will send an e-mail to everyone who has e-mailed me with their mailing address telling them who they got, and that person's mailing address. 2. Everyone will e-mail me back with aknowledgement. Dec 6
Mail packages by this date. Do NOT, do not spend more than $10 on the present. It's important to mail it by the sixth because we have some college students and last year there were some who didn't get their packages until they came back after December break. ------ Last year, I got a Chinese cookbook from the wonderful Annie, and it was fabulous. :)Let's play.

You know that it would be hard to mail your package on Dec 5th right? (It being Sunday and all)

Why don't we up the limit to 20 dollars -- people shouldn't be afraid to spend over 10 if they find something upwards of that price. And they definitely shouldn't feel *required* to spend the twenty...just gives us a little more wiggle room.

I like the idea of ten dollars because you CAN get stuff for that price, but it takes some imagination.
Plus, it eliminates CDs. I don't know...I don't want it to be a money stress for anyone, and there's still the mailing cost over the cost of the present.

I know, but I agree with Kira... I like the wiggle room and I think 20 was the limit last year...

I have a question... is it possible for me to participate if I have to expect someone to pay shipping charges to Israel?

So, it looks like -- for the same shipping charges, more or less -- the package that would take 2 or so days domestic would take about a month to get to Israel. So, assuming Raia is willing to wait a little longer for hers, that seems to work out ok, neh? (NO idea what shipping FROM Israel to the U.S. might cost.)

True, but if they'll only know they have her on Nov. 25th, and will need to get the gift, I'd imagine it wouldn't be much earlier.

I did the secret Santa last year. Saxon75 liked the record I sent him. I don't know if I liked my gift or not, because nothing ever came in the mail. I didn't really mind, though, I was just happy to be able to spread the word about some great Canadian blues rock.

Yeah, that one took me a while, too. And I'm still not terribly happy with my answer, but hey - there's a lot of good stuff here.

No, December only happens once - it just happens for a little more than one full lunar cycle....

So why don't we have a March Gift Exchange? Or a July Gift Exchange? What's special about December?

I have a suggestion - specify gender in case the giver doesn't know. I don't know everyone's gender and would probably pick a different gift for a male vs. a female.

May I suggest a #4 to the list of info required...
That since you usually put your RL name on addresses, you need to supply your Hatrack handle as well.
Not that I would send out all my information, under Dan Davis, and not put a note on it anywhere that I was alias Dan_raven.
Nope, I wouldn't be that silly.
Especially not two years in a row.
It wasn't me. It must have been someone else.
Yep.
I think Ashcroft's super secret government conspiracy zapped into some e-mail I sent out and must have erased that line in the slim hopes that it would embarass me.
Not that it could.
Hey, Mr. Ashcroft, I don't need your help embarassing myself.

And what about each of us throwing in some suggestions? I mean, I'm a girl, sure, but how much does that really help ya?

You mean like suggestions for what to get? I'd think that could be figured out by going through all the posts and seeing what our giftee likes...But that's just what I'm probably gonna do
