to be fair, I didn't do all of them -- I took a few minutes to clear my cache because the new numbers weren't popping up. Did maybe half, though.

Is anyone else having trouble with the cheatbuster thing? It's rejected me the last three times!

Does anyone know how captchas work? Do they allow alternate spellings when the characters are hard to recognize? There have been times when I've peered at it saying, "is that a double L or an H?" or "are those two parallel dashes supposed to be a z?" and make my best guess and it accepts my entry. I just wonder if someone has figured out that there can be more than one way to look at the image and programmed in more than one way to spell the words.

In a two work Captcha, only one of the two words is actually used to determine if you are human, the second one is part of project to digitize old print books, newspapers and magazines.
If you make any errors in the word that's actually being used to check if you are human, your vote is rejected. You can make major errors in the other word, even type nothing at all (if its the second word), and your vote will still be accepted. As best I can tell, the program alternates whether the first or second word is part of the digital library project/

Cool. I was wondering why I was screwing up some of the words and it still took it. as well as why some words had commas and French accents. I'll have to be sure to type them in. :-)

It's looking pretty good, but just for fun and to be on the safe side, it's been suggested that we see how many votes we can register the evening of 11/15, which is the last day of voting. If you've got some time next Monday, spend it voting!

Yep. I was working the last 4 days, and at a place with no internet connections. I'll make it up the rest of the week though.

I am so proud of this site, and I hope our lead holds up. The Meeses deserve this, and it feels good helping them get it.

It appears that voting has closed at midnight EST, and unless something unusual happens/happened, we would appear to have received the most votes by far.
Thank you again, folks, for your continuing kindness to us. There's a reason we've always thought of Hatrack as another branch of our family. (No, sorry, that doesn't mean you all go on the trip with us if we do win. Sorry.) As we learn more of the results, and what exactly the might entail for us, we'll update you all.

[Edit -- looks like they made it official! We won!]

So um, you won't by any chance be taking your vacation to some place where you might have a hatrack party?
I know you won't be coming near me. There are no "road trips" to Trinidad even if you should decide you wanted to drive this far. But it would be kind of cool if some of the gang who've been voting like mad might be able to meet you at some point on your road trip.

(In case anyone goes to the site and sees we're not identified as the winners any more -- turns out it's not official until we send in a notarized affidavit/release, so they pulled the announcement that their IT department had on a timer. It isn't that we didn't win, just that it's not officially official yet.)

It's still showing you as the 2011 winner on the link above.
I am so happy for you and your family, and I a glad that I got into and helped as much as I can. Several of my family members said they voted multiple times as well, although not as much as we did ourselves.
I am so proud of the people who helped them win, I think it is a wonderful thing....both for the Meeses and for the community here at Hatrack.

Florida's also a very long road trip when you are starting in CA and have 4 kids in the car. Last years "Family Road Trip" lasted 6 days and I don't suspect that 24 hours a day of driving is either what the Meeses or Parenting magazines sponsors want.

Yes, they re-officialed the unofficialness once they received our release/affidavit. We spoke with a few people from the magazine this morning to share some of our family's interests and ideas, plus some brands of products we use (the trip is way sponsored), and we'll continue to go forward. I don't know how much more they'll be asking us, or if they'll just decide on stuff for us to do or whatever. We're going to have a good time.
And again, thank you for voting for us. We couldn't have done this without the support of family and friends all over the place.
Florida is too far, much as we'd like to visit. Just sayin'.

The local newspaper posted an article here. Not sure I would've started it off the way they did, but I guess it makes it more newsish than just announcing the win. It's interesting to see which parts of what we said made it into the article, too.

And Mama's age, and a couple other not-entirely-accurate restatements of things we said, but it's close enough for government work.
If I could get a government job, that is.... *smile*
ETA: I was originally thinking that it was strange that they'd choose the blurry photo for the first one, but after thinking about it, our life seems sometimes like the kids are going a million miles an hour while we stand still, so I think it grew on me pretty quickly.
