623 words. I'm trying to take myself less seriously this time around--using more humor, having more fun. It's also my first attempt at science fiction.* About as soft sci-fi as you can get, but it's a start.
edited to say: *My first attempt at a science fiction NOVEL. The narcissistic side of me would like to think that someone, somewhere remembers that I've written a couple of science fiction short stories.

Finished a 4000 word story complete with rewrites in six days. That's an absolute first for a newbie like me. The last 4000 word story took me 5 months! Yee haw.

Not sure if you mean every day or just to average it?
Anyway, I keep track of my daily writing habits in an Excel spreadsheet and it gives me fun statistics to help keep me motivated. For the year 2010, I've averaged 745 words per day. I've written 174 of the possible 260 days and when I do write, I average 1113 words during that session. My total publishable word count for the year is 193,748. That number doesn't count editing, queries, cover letters and synopsis.

Just post when you meet the challenge. So if you write 500 words in 24 hours then you can post. It is so you can crow, yet also show people who may not be writing that it is possible to hit the target often (everyday!).

I found the answer to my writers block three days ago, and since then I've written a thousand words a day. It feels good to be moving forward again, I don't feel like a real person unless I write everyday. ~Sheena

588 today. It took a little longer as I had to reread the story I had left behind. But once I got through it, had no problem picking it right back up.

847 today. Very excited. 2 small scenes left, then the ending, and man I have wanted to get to this ending for months, but got hung up along the way.

Ok, so I really wanted to write new stuff today. But don't have the time as of yet and really shouldnt, have 2 stories with end of month deadlines, and thanks to this have been inspired to write them, done, now just got to edit. Which is where my writing time went today. I know it counts, but still not posting a word count still seems off Posts: 1168 | Registered: Mar 2008

Another day of editing. 18 pages worth. Only 6 pages to go, should finish tomorrow. Is hard though, I want to write, not edit. Then when I get editing, I have a hard time writing again when the time comes as if the muse has gone on vacation. Man, I really could use a vacation.

Yipee. 733 words. The yipee because they were new words, and well, I have only been editing lately, but this night I got to do both. And the night is still young, hoping to finish this story 2nd draft tonight. Although has had major rewrites which led to the 733 words.

Yesterday I wrote six hundred some words of an outline for a story...I hope to move into narrative sometime today...I'd'a mentioned it on the weekly "Did You Write" post, but it hasn't yet appeared.

I wrote 2,718 words yesturday of my newest book. I haven't written any of that in awhile because I'd been focused on these short stories. But I got back into it, and I finally discovered, in those 2718 words, an ending. I'm so glad, because I didn't think I'd find one. It helps, like really really helps, when I give myself clues throughout the book. I discovered an easier way, for me at least, to find endings. I give myself clues, and include things within that I might possibly be able to use later on. x] It paid off.

I've had a bad few weeks at work so I've not joined this game up until now. The worst is over. Yeah! 1,100 today. Plus some editing on my novel. Now time for a few crits. I'm back.

Oh yeah. Added 482 to the monster rewrite, and gave the first half another quick edit. But 'tis done, until tomorrow and final edit. Deleted nearly 500 words from my other story during its edit, have 211 more to delete in order to squeeze under the cap. But totally stoked. With luck, 2 submissions tomorrow by the deadlines.

Yes I did, submitted another story. 3 in 2 days. And, while I admit it was hard, stopped twice, but I forced my way through it and wrote 513 words today. Yes I wouldn't stop until I reached the 500 mark, and at least 300 will be used going forward I am sure.

Still a fool here. Editing up another story, which will lead to rewrites tomorrow. And put a little down on a new one popping in my head. No true word count for today but nearly 2 hours invested in rewrites and editing.

I am with you there Twiggy, wanting to write the new stuff that comes a calling. Not really sure today counts as editing though as I rewrote the last 1/3 at last count 937 new words. The piece is now 500 words over the limit, and will cut those tonight. But yeah, still doing it.

I am envious of all of you. I'm on call this weekend. I must have dictated and edited 5-6000 words -- not one of them fiction.
Did start drafting a query letter and a three sentence pitch for my novel.
Summarizing an 108,000 word story in three sentences to hook an agent's interest is a challenge.
Not that there is any comparison, but how did Tolkien do it?
"The long-lost One Ring of Power of the Dark Lord of Middle-Earth has been found Bilbo Baggins, one of the little people, who gifts it to his nephew Frodo.
If the Dark Lord recovers the Ring, and he is seeking it desparately, Middle-Earth will plunge into blackness and horror forever.
With his friends and an elf, a dwarf, two Men of royal lineage, and a wizard, Frodo sets out on a near hopeless quest through ancient mountain caverns, magical elven forests, and the Dark Lord's own kingdom of ash and shadows in hope to destroy the Ring in the fires of the volcano where it was once forged-- before the Ring can overpower him."

1400 so far. Really didn't think I could do much today, but plowed through and it started coming. It's nice when I can convince myself just to write, editing can fix everything later. In the end, what comes out isn't too bad after all, ya know?
