Are there any other Idol fans out there? Recall I'm still new here and I've seen a few media threads, but not an Idol one...well, at any rate I'm part of the 40 million viewers who neglected the Olympics for it. I'm cheesy like that.

Who are you rooting for? Who annoys you? How is fifth season better or worse?

I really think these folks don't have good hearing or something, because some of these women to me just... they do these weird vocal out of key things.
Like this woman that sang Celine Dion (Don't get me started on Celine Dion, but I do like 2 songs by her)
She really, wasn't that good in my eyes.

But I do like Mandika, and that small young 16 year old girl and the cool white haired dude because he's just got STYLE. HE rocks!

I agree that the girls were off tonight--though I liked Paris' rendition of Wind beneath my Wings, she has an amazing voice and put a lot of emotion into that song!

I definitely agree with Randy that a guy is going to win it this year (see Johnsonweed, you don't have to feel embarrassed about American Idol when there are dorks like me who can actually remember quotes). They seem to have more interesting individuals and I like their voices/showmanship better.

I'm such a Taylor (grey hair) fan. Anyone who plays a blues harmonica rendition at his audition is cool by me.

So that makes him COOL.

I usually like the girls much more than the guys but I totally loved Taylor last week. The only girl that I have found exciting at all this year is Paris but I thought she was kinda boring tonight. It will be interesting to see if Taylor will be as good tomorrow as last week. If so, I think I have the person I am going to root for in the long haul.

I think the song was called Fuel, or it was by Fuel?

Why is no one talking about Elliot? Seriously, he blows me away.

Taylor . . . cool, but ultimately meh. The bald guy did put in a stunning performance tonight, though.

Syn, I believe the song he did was by a band called Fuel. (I personally liked his version as well as or better than the original.)

Shall we make our top 12 predictions? I wrote mine down last week.

Guys:
Ace, Chris, Elliot, Taylor, Will, and Kevin

Ladies:
Katherine, Kellie, Lisa, Mandisa, and Paris (yes, that's only 5...I am on the fence about the 6th. Last week I thought it would be Brenna, but I think she's going to be gone tonight.)

And yeah, I think it'll be a guy that wins this year. Elliot is amazing. They have to do something with his look though. Good as he is, he isn't going to beat Chris if he doesn't do something with his look. But truth is, I love Taylor. He's just so different. He could stop the war whoops though. Once or twice is enough.

Predictions for the ones going tonight:
Heather and Brenna, David and Sway.

Taylor is not cut out for this. He's from Birmingham (Hoover actually) so he's been getting a lot of press and my brother knows him from church, or something like that. He's incredibly uncomfortable with all the attention he's getting.

He does love to sing, though and that comes across. I don't see him making it to the finals, though.

I wasn't crazy about ANY of the guys last night. The girls didn't do as well as they did last week either. Second week jitters, maybe? Paris' performance of "Midnight Train to Georgia" is so far my favorite performance.

I haven't been following this season yet, and probably won't much until it gets to final 12.

But the guys here at work were sure talking about that Chris guy, who they think blows all others out of the water.

So I might have to tune in next week to see.

A.I. is my guilty pleasure. I try not to admit to watching it to often.

Chris last night was hands down the best Rock performance the show has ever had. But of course until last year there haven't been many Rock people on the show.

Taylor is cool. He just seems to be having fun. Like he is laughing to himself: Man I can't believe I'm on this show.

It might just be me, but if Kevin had dark hair he should be playing Harry Potter.

The 16 year old girls are pretty good, especially for their age. Mandisa is my favorite, but none have consistently been great.

But we might have to wait while he gives up Hatrack for Lent.

Brinestone, I win. I had 100% accurate prediction rate for who was leaving last night. [Wink] THe only real surprise was seeing Kevin in the bottom three of the guys. I figured the 13 year old girl demographic would have kept him bouncing somewhere in the middle.

Not totally on topic...actually, not much on topic, but was anyone else annoyed at Paula for her comments to Mandisa? I know she meant it as a compliment, but... Anyway, her comment was "You have such a beautiful face."

Now, I know some people would go "How can that NOT be a compliment?!", but I have a friend who is absolutely gorgeous. She could be a model. A plus sized model. She struggles with her weight. She hears this compliment all the time. "You have such a beautiful face." Like that's all there is to her and that the rest of her is hideous.

I had never really thought about it, but I could see her point. People think they're being kind when they say this, but really, they're pointing out, "You know, if you lost XX lbs, you'd be gorgeous. As it is, you just have a pretty face. What a shame you let all that beauty go to waste for a few extra donuts." And maybe it's just me, but I don't hold to that. Not everyone is built like a stick. And even very heavy bodies can be attractive. The question is: are you healthy? are you happy? are you good?

I realize that a lot of this show is about image, not jsut vocals. I commented about that with re: to Elliot. But only a few of the girls are really truly thin. Most of them could stand to lose a few pounds (and it looks to me like Carrie Underwood has.) They're all gorgeous. Including Mandisa, and not just her face. She's a lovely woman with a gorgeous voice. Period. No need to qualify it.

Yes, I noticed, and was annoyed.

Paula also told another singer that she wished she could cut off her legs-from the knees down-and attach them to hers, because then she(Paula) would be perfect.

I totally caught the "face" comment also. I thought it was pretty close to rude. At least Simon said what he was thinking even if it was behind her back. What makes me like Mandisa even more than her singing is the way she told Simon how he hurt her, but she forgave him. It didn't seem like an act to me. To me that makes her extremely beautiful. What Paula should have said was she is a beautiful person period.

I've always suspected Paula had a few drinks or tokes, lines or pills of something before she went on the show. Last night totally confirmed it. So the question now is what is she on?

I appreciated that Mandisa took it as a face-value compliment. She's a very graceful lady.

The whole thing about Ayla's legs was more than a little creepy too when it was all out of Paula's mouth. I got the impression that what she'd really meant to say was something like "...and I would kill to have legs like yours." not "I would like to kill you so I can have your legs." And the getup Paula was wearing! I kept thinking, well, nothing left to the imagination THERE.

I'd also wish she'd stop hitting Simon. I hate when petite women think it's okay to hit men. Even if they're being unbearably annoying.

Any thoughts about last night's performances?

My only real issue was Simon's coaching of the audience on who not to vote for. I felt sorry for Melissa, in that I think the producers of the show have made a concerted effort not to feature her. She wasn't featured on any of the pre-top24 episodes, so she didn't have any early momentum to help her out with the voters. Her performance last night wasn't that bad...I liked it up to the last riff that was just a mess. And then Kinnik, I felt sorry for in that all the other girls got a pre-performance interview with Ryan, but instead, right before her performance, he interviewed Katherine, who performed later. That was not only weird, but I think an unsubtle sabotage.

*shrug*

I can't imagine how those two won't be gone on Thursday. Which is okay because I don't think they're all that great. But let them fail on their own merits...no need to sandbag them.

Jeniwren:

I really felt the same about Simon's comments on Melissa. I can't say she's my favorite, but it's almost as if they want to get rid of her (and a few others) as quickly as possible.

Then why later all the extoling of Kelly? She's definitely good, and I'm not going to deny that, but Mandisa was phenomenal and he didn't tell her that she was better than last year's winner or Fantasia (And my conscience can't support a girl who pretends to not know what "sal-mon" is.)

I'm definitely going to pay attention to see if there is any 'intent' behind the comments tonight.

Kristen, I took some umbrance with Simon's effusion over Kellie, but thinking about it some more I recall he never said that he thought she was better than Carrie, just that he preferred her to Carrie. Which I think was totally honest. Last season he was pretty clear that he thought Carrie was bankable and would have a great recording career, but was a bit bored with her personally. Kellie does not have a Carrie quality voice, but she IS interesting in a more innocent Jessica Simpson sort of way. I admit that the whole minx/mink thing cracked me up.

That said, I don't see Kellie winning. I wonder if she'll be an upset early goner, ala Constantine.

I got my friend to record herself dancing to "She Bangs" It was funny.

My math teacher was playing that song while I was walking in the hall, I peeked in and she was dancing. I laughed. She's about 31 (We think [Big Grin] ) so she's really cool.

I loved Kevin's Starry, Starry Night. I thought it was just wonderful. It was, however, more of a Broadway performance, I think, than pop. If he's gone tonight, I really hope he pursues the stage more and pop less. And I hope he can act.

Last night was so HARD, because I really didn't think any of them truly tanked their performances. They were all good.

Who I wish was going to be in the bottom three tonight: Bucky, Gedeon and Kevin.

Who I think will be in the bottom three: Kevin, Will and Gedeon.

I think it is going to be Kevin and Will going home. I just haven't seen any perfomances from them that made me find them memorable. I think Gedeon stands out much more and has done a better job with song choices. Bucky isn't for me but I can imagine that lots of people like him.

This week did very little to change my mind about who I liked. I thought the girls were a little flat but I still like Paris and Mandisa. The guys I thought were better. I really love Taylor and Chris.

I really love the type of music Kevin sings. It appeals to me so much more than most of the music the other guys sing. I was so bored during Elliot's song, for example, but apparently a lot of people love him.

I can't stand Will. He doesn't have a particularly good voice, he doesn't have good stage presence. He doesn't have anything really, except for a pretty face. I can't believe he's made it this far, and I really hope he goes home this week.

I admit it.. I watch AI. Although when Carrie underwood won, I was ready to scream and swear off AI for life! I didn't like her from start to finish she's much better when they can digitalize and fix her voice but she is terribly boring to watch.

This year I'm for Chris. Stage presence, sexy, and sings with passion. However, I love Taylor also because he's never boring, fun, and again, he can wail out a tune with such charismatic vigor.

Mandisa is the woman of the year! Stage presence is commanding attention-much like Fantasia did.

Simon is usually right on the money with his critiques so I don't know why people get so upset with him.

I can't stand Ryan or Paula. Paula does appear to be drugged or drunk more and more this year. (then again, I just don't really care for really NICE people.. they scare me into distrust)

Did you see the rich girl get kicked off? That chick is not used to losing. I can see her point, though. I thought she'd have enough college dudes voting for her to keep her in until around May.

One thing I think Simon got wrong, though. He blamed her choice of song. I don't think that was nearly as bad as her choice of pants.

Just my opinion.

It was the right thing to do to vote Ayla off tonight. She's been trying to decide between the finals in AI and basketball practice back at college where she has a scholarship. She would never have actually won, so I think it was merciful of people to vote her off now so she can devote all her time to basketball.
