I emailed Bok for an invite but apparently didn't get on the list. I'm carolfoltz (at) frontiernet.net if anyone has a spare.

I cleaned out my browser's cache, and that seemed to work. It didn't get stuck on the "Loading" screen anymore.

Wheeee! Thanks, Bok. I'll be sending out invitations to people when I start getting them. Assuming no one else in my family wants one, I'll probably be sending them to people on this thread.

Gmailswap is an extremely easy way to get one. I offered funny family guy quotes and a get out of jail free card, and got 3 invitations in return.
I should have a couple of extra invites in a matter of days, or whenever they arrive. If anyone on hatrack still doesn't have one by then, drop me a line.

Eddie, I got yo back, just as soon as the Google gods see fit to send me a couple invites. Weird -- I got this account a couple days ago, and still no invites available.
Maybe my addy was too pretentious for them.

Can someone explain to me the point/appeal of GMail? It's like regular POPMail, only lamer, right? I mean, it's basically a larger version of Hotmail.
Does it do your laundry?

I think the appeal is that it is invite only right now, so you think you are cool if you get one. It isn't working with my browser or something, because I still can't make it work, when I go to the page to relogin it tells me it is loading, and gets stuck. Someone mentioned something about cleaning the cache but I don't know how (yes I am a bit of a computer moron)

Tom, since you don't like webmail in general, I doubt you'll be able to see the appeal.
I, personally, want it for the search functions. And the 1G storage space would be nice, not that I'll ever need that much. But I could send myself lots of stuff that'd be available to me anywhere I can get net access.

Breyer, after you get that error message, try refreshing your browser. It seems to clear the problem sometimes as well.
Tom, it works as a jumpdrive if you want. Also, many functions of gmail have yet to be activated; such as pop3 support. In addition the ability to get the good usernames is a reason to desire an invite.

refreshing doesn't work at all, that's the first thing I tried. neither did getting offline. Well now that hotmail is increasing I won't be as upset if it doesn't work, but I hope it does soon..

It's sorta like that "gotta have it" new holiday toy, isn't it? Maybe I should go and sit on Santa's lap.....

Tom the reason I wanted one is because this is the only place that the email address for my husband's business is available. Otherwise, he'd end up with some weird name or one with 9843213 after it. My yahoo id is kaylafromhatrack2001 because kaylafromhatrack was taken! Can you imagine?

Tom, he spends enoughmoney on it already. It's really more of a hobby that is barely making money (and even then, it only makes money if you don't count his time and forget about how much he spent on tools so far.) And on top of that, any money he makes is then spent on poker. I'm not about to pay for anything else for it. But, he's really good at what he does. I should put that picture of Patrick's family up.

OK, a friend of mine irl hooked me up. So when I have some invites available I'll auction them off here to the lowest bidder. And please, feel free to be as low as you like.
Oh, and if you want to send a supplication in anticipation, my address is antisuji at gmail dot com.

I admit, the only reason I almost want one of these is because I think it'd annoy Tom to see yet another person begging for a gmail account

I must confess, I'm starting to wonder whether the best way to attract traffic to a web site is to put a password on it and pretend that only people who are really, really cool can get in.

I'm tempted. Maybe I should make my forum invite-only, and extend the ability to invite people only to those people who've already signed up. *laugh*

It's an absolutely brilliant marketing ploy. But something tells me that it's not enough by itself.
