I think if someone had been called, we'd know about it here...unless he had lifelines that weren't 'rackers.

I can't believe there wasn't a single question about Etruscan pottery or ancient Peruvian mummification techniques. What kind of boring lame show is this?

The last show ended taping after 10 pm. They ran really late all day.
Thanks to those of you who were standing by for me.
I did not happen to get into the hot seat.
I'm not supposed to talk about what I saw.
I'm going to hope that this is not saying too much (but if it is, what am I forfeiting?) but they seemed to think we would get close to fifteen people in the hot seat today. Only nine made it in.
If you want to see me on TV, these episodes will air the week of May 16 to 20. I sat in the third row on the end, and probably appear fairly often behind Meredith Vieira. I'm the guy who looks like Jesus in a black shirt with a red button shirt over it.
I've ordered some food, and will probably stay online until it arrives but I'm really tired; and trying not to be too disappointed. :-\

Since I didn't make it into the seat, I can still try out. Next season, I want to try for the New York version of the show.

I was posting from my cell phone, for those who want to know. Thus the double post. The last post without a period was when they took us into the soundstage, and I figured I would lose signal any second, so I hit "submit."
Once we got there, they sequestered us. Using a cell phone after that point (or going online, for those of us who could) would have been grounds for elimination.
They were really pretty harsh in some ways once they got us in, but I really can't complain. I got a T-shirt (which I may have lost), a pencil, free lunch and dinner, such as it was, and I had a shot at the hot seat. But they were really strict about a lot of surprising details.

Too bad about that, Icky, I think you would have done fine.
If you are going to try out for the NY version, make it a vaxation trip...there is a lot to see, and you could come up and visit us...unless Jenni gets a contract with Disney, in which case we will have already met.

It was fun here too. Smokey was utterly napping. dkw was at a meeting. I was working.

Icky, you mentioned that they were harsh about a lot of surprising things. Would you care to elaborate? I admit to being excessively curious at that statement.

Well, they gave us red wristbands to identify (and number) us, and brought us into an empty soundstage as a type of Green Room. They told us we could use our cell phones until ten or so, but nobody had reception. They would not let us leave the soundstage to use the cell phone or to use the restroom except under supervision. Their idea of supervision was to take people from a couple of rows of seats at a time, and asking other people to wait. Many other people did not wait, though, and they were getting maybe one row out every ten minutes, but they had a room full of people and maybe a half hour before they wanted to bried us on legal stuff. I did not get to go to the bathroom, but I needed to. So during the legal briefing, I asked one of the staffers if I could go. He told me it was really important for me to hear it--even though it was pretty much the same information that was in the official rules I had already been given on paper, and signed acknowledgment of receipt of. Fine. I waited until after, when he started talking about strategy. The guy said, "You really ought to hear this, too." I explained to him that I am diabetic and need to use the bathroom with some frequency, and he finally escorted me to the restroom. (And, by the way, I did not quite agree with the bits of strategy I heard.)
Anyway, after the briefing, they ordered us to turn cell phones off, and we were not allowed to surf the internet, play trivia games, or read books. If you brought a novel, you could not read it.
Between tapings of episodes, when I wanted to go to the bathroom, I had to ask and be escorted again.
I'm just not sure what they were afraid of. What could we do talking on cell phones that they wanted to prevent? Why couldn't we play trivia or read books?
Again, I really can't complain, but I spent 17 hours or so there last night, and it was more tiring because of things like that.
Won't stop me from trying again, though!

OOOhhhhh... I will be sitting rapt to the tv during this time. Hmm Jesus fellow eh? I'll have to look hard cos if you're behind Meredith Viera.. umm yeah I'll prolly remember to look for you hopefully before they go to the hot seat action.
And I wanted to know how exactly you're posting to HR on your cell? I'm technologically stupid when it comes to WAPenabled cells and such. I just learned how to go to LJ on my cell phone.. Like I said.. technologically stupid here...
My cell phone is a pocket PC, so I post pretty much the same way I post here. It goes a bit slower because it's essentially a dial-up connection, and typing is a bit trickier (though it does have a QWERTY keyboard that slides out of the body), but it's not too hard to figure it out.
Are you new, by the way? If so, welcome!

Sorry I couldn't be there for you so much, Icky, whether you got in or not. I'll definitely watch it if I can when you're on, I'll Tivo it and rewind it around to see you a bunch of times.

I already made that thread a few years ago, so you'd have to pay me royalties.
Sorry, didn't mean to touch a sensitive spot. I believe this is the first thread that you and I have both posted on, so I just wanted to say "Hi!"

Katie, someone stops being a newbie at Hatrack when they no longer have to ask if they are a newbie .

I don't think I ever asked if I was still a newb or not.. I just sorta jumped right in.
And Ick.. that's cool, wasn't sensitive, I was just wondering when "the regulars" consider one no longer a newbie around here. *shrugs* lol And where is that thread? I'm playing Texas Hold 'Em over at a friend's house and am on their laptop as I sit waiting to get back into the game.. lost all my pennies already

Hey, Icarus, if a person wanted to give the show a try, how would they go about getting onto it? I haven't watched the show in some time, honestly, but a friend of mine who does thinks that I'd be a fool not to at least give it a shot, and I'm thinking about it. Any advice?

Okay - Noemon - let me get this straight...
You hide your identity and location from the majority of Hatrack. Many know your first name, but not full name, or where you live. You don't like to go to gatherings because you like anonymity.....and you don't have a photo on Foobonic...
...but you would go on National TV for a measly million bucks? Hey - what's up with that?
