v.Hatrack - The act of going into a thread and slowly evolving the topic into something of almost no relevance to the initial post. "My thread was just totally hatracked by the royalty."

Didn't we have a thread about this about a month ago? We had a big discussion about jatraquero vs. ratraquero vs. ratraquenho.

Title aside, I don't think this one was supposed to be about hatrack-specific terms. I saw it more of a game on turning peoples names into new terms, regardless of whether said terms have ever actually been used or not.

Good old Shakey... King Lear's such a great play.

I put in some usernames too, but I don't have enough to write about enough people. Give me stuff and I'll insert it. I curently have Orson Scott Card, mpr, Choobak, Dagonee, ElJay (who wants to be off), the Four Horsemen, me, Jon Boy, kwtchupqueen, rivka (with mangled facts), Bob_Scopatz, Tante Shvester, Son of Shvester, TomDavidson and Turgan. Almost all of them need revision, and we're talking about nouns and verbs deriving from their behaviour, not a Hatrack Encyclopaedia. I'm writing a dictionary, after all.

I still say that someone-not-me needs to create a wikipedia entry for "Hatrack" that we can edit with the Jatraquero Lexicon.

I believe there was an exception to the "Real" stuff, with the Cards...
The idea of becoming "Real" happened because of people at Hatrack using so many pseudonyms that no one knew who was real and who wasn't...
But as Hatrack IS OSC's web site he was "real", as was his family, even if they had never met other Hatrackers (as if we would let THAT happen... ).
You have to meet two other jatraqueros who are already real when the meeting occurs.
We had a few people who didn't know anyone other than each other, and that from before they posted here, and they tries to declare themselves "Real", but as none of them had ever met any other Jatraqueros it wasn't valid.

I don't know if I am real or not yet. I have met Toretha, Fyfe, Fugu, Human, Mayday, and some others who don't post anymore. Am I real?

I love Tante posting one million times a day (who says I exaggerate!?) Who else could post so much in begging the question? I love that thread! Makes me laugh every time. By the way, "Lend me an Ambien?' That ruled.

I don't know about that last bit. I would say you can become retroactively real. I think the point is that you must be able to tie in to some other real group.

I think there ought to be an exchange rate for posts in game threads. Maybe seven of those count as one "real" post or something.

Sure, change the rules on me now! And just to spite you, I'll make a "Tag, you're it" thread that will cause such post count inflation as to make the whole system meaningless.
Further addenda to proposed new postcount exchange rate: Animated smilies should count double toward your seven smilie allowance.

It's degrees of separation. If you had met Slash the Berserker, it would be O degrees of separation. Since Ralphie knows the Berserker, you would have a Slash Number of 1

I have a suggestion: let's decide on "authenticity", as one level beyond realness.
The number of real Hatrackers you met (at the time they were real) times the number of posts you posted under your standard pseudonym, times the number of days you were registered on the forum with your main username.
I, for instance, have met 2 real hatrackers. That's 2 times 2305 posts which is 4610, times 283 days I was here, and my authenticity is 1,304,630, in other words I'm roughly with the "authenticity" level of 1.3M.
Those who aren't real will have 0 Hatrack authenticity.
As for those who joined "A Long Time Ago" - I don't know what to do about them.

I didn't realize that about 'realness.' I must have missed the note somewhere. . .
Anyway, from what I understand, I've been real since 2003, after sitting next to kacard the first day of Literary Boot Camp. Does someone care to inform me differently?
As for Hatrack Royalty-- meh. These things come and go.

"t" being the days you were on, "r" the real people you've met, "p" your post count and "s" your Slash Number?

Scott, I think it's pretty clear that the combination of OSC and kacard can bestow Realness, as I believe both have met Slash. Not to mention any number of other Real Jatraqueros.
Besides, you've met a chunk of the PNW clump -- don't get more real than that.
JH, there may be lines with lower Slash numbers for you, but I've met Ralphie and Raia. So via that route, I guess your Slash number (using Shigosei's formula) is 4.

So how do you think the formula works? I'm pretty hopeless with functions, but the aim is that someone like Tante who has a very high ratio of posts:time should start off with low increments of rating but increase as time flows with less effect of the posts posted later on. In other words, that the original boost in posts will be more valuable later.

If that could have a lesser effect in such a case - the better. I need to apply this to many situations, but I'm no great formulit. How're my graphs doing?

The problem with making graphs with that many variables (I don't know how to do it) is that it'll just be squiggly lines or something. But someone with higher math knowledge correct me.
