It's hatrack culture. I love hatrack culture. I love hatrack. And I love these pretzels.

Someday soon I'm gonna unravel the mess that I've made of my life.

Here's a graemlin.

So. If anyone cares ... ya know the whole teenage angst thread I posted a while back? And how it ended with a happy ending? Short summary: I tell best friend I like her, she says she needs distance, I struggle with that, then come to accept it, at which time she first says she just wants to be friends like we were again, and then, much to my suprise, says she'd like to try out a romantic relationship.

Well, the trying out ended tonight. Turns out she can't think of me as anything other than a friend. In my opinion she didn't give it enough of a chance, but oddly enough, we are much stronger friends because of this. Now that we've tried it out, it's really kind of removed the last barrier between a really awesome friendship. So its good. But also bad. Because I really liked holding her hand.

And the only reason I'm posting it in this thread is because I didn't feel like creating a whole new thread and I have a particular affinity for this thread. It's been with me all theough my brief posting career, always available to write in late at night when I'm struggling with something or just want to tell someone something but everyone else is asleep. I love this thread.

Strangelove, I hear ya. Sucks, but good too. Glad it worked out at least partially good. [Smile]

I'm still here, but we - me, neice, nephew - are going out shopping in a few minutes. [Big Grin] Ah, yes, the difficult life I lead. [Big Grin]

If it's a Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday night, I will be awake until a ridiculous hour.

Strangelove, we've all been there. It happens to the best of us. But I'm glad that you're even better friends now than you were before. Situations like that rarely turn out well, and it's good to hear of exceptions.

KQ, [Frown] . Sorry, that's all I can offer. I hope she sleeps soon.

Evie, I'll take a look.

And, as a rule, I allow my mind to dictate my actions, so its all good. But I sure am gonna miss being close to her in the way I was for the past month.

One of the reasons why in-shape women don't have a problem being with fat slobs is because the combination is everywhere, which also creates this expectation in a lot of men that they "deserve" a super hot wife, even if they've totally let themselves go.

My latest annoyance is this ad for that "I Want That" tv show. The husband is like plastered to the tv, and he's like, "Honey, we have GOT to get one of these."

The camera changes to the wife, who's sitting on the couch and is athletic and beautiful, and she says, "Honey, I can't see the tv when you do that."

Then he gets up. And he has a huge belly.

That makes complete sense. It shows today's society that men can have their pick of women, while women have to settle for a man that doesn't respect her, and frankly, isn't very attractive.

Pretty much. I think it's really sad.

We also seem to judge a man's attractiveness partly on the attractiveness of his wife, but we judge a woman's attractiveness solely on its own. And much more in a physical sense, whereas men can be cherismatic or gentle or any other number of attractive, positive traits.

Wait, say more about that. I got sort of lost when you said
quote:
We also seem to judge a man's attractiveness partly on the attractiveness of his wife
But I agree whole-heartedly on the fact that women get judged purely on their looks, whereas men are judged by more emotional qualities.

I guess you have to look at the person who's doing the judging, though. Men are more prone to take things at face value, while women are more likely to look deeper into the emotions of a person, thus finding him attractive. Does that make any sense?

I'm not saying that it's acceptable, but I think it has to do partly with the female and male psyche.

See, I think at least partly, men are CONDITIONED to take things more at face value, whereas women are conditioned more to look deeper into things.

As for judging the attractivenes of a man on his wife, it's like...an average-looking guy with some super mega hot wife is suddenly a stud. The same does not hold as true for an average-looking woman with a super mega hot husband.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense about the attractiveness of a woman rubbing off on a man. I would have to disagree, however, with the idea that we are always conditioned that way. I think it's a combination of both learned and innate traits. Who can tell where one starts and the other begins?

I'm not disagreeing with you in the sense that I believe the whole situation is wrong and should be rectified. I wish we all saw each other as people resting on our own merits, not assuming that a woman is a trophy and the man who has her is the king because of it.

I don't think it's entirely a conditioned thing, but I think a good part of it is.

Like the idea that it's okay and reasonable for men to watch pornography even if their girlfriends/wives aren't comfortable with it because "men are visual."

I'm not saying that I personally have a problem with porn, but if it makes your partner uncomfortable...

Yeah, that makes sense. There are some aspects that are conditioned, and can just as easily be treated as such, like your exaple above.

The hard part will be, however, how are we going to instill these changes into a heavily conditioned society? I mean, we can groan about it all we want, but how can that change come about?

I don't know, I'm just rambling. I think I'm going to try and go to sleep. Night!

And I'm still up... Just busy doing some sewing. Lots and lots and lots of sewing to do.

Oh yeah. I have to clean the kitchen, too. Well, the whole house, really, but I'll be happy if I do the kitchen today.

And I need to get going on the next pair of pants. *sigh*. Seriously, a whole big load of sewing. [Big Grin]

Not only am I still up, but I'm also hopped up on Peeps and Red Bull in an effort to kick start my brain so that I can finish this ridiculously long, detailed analysis of global cosmetics trends and make a subsequent recommendation on how to position a particular product in a new market.

Someone talk to me. Please.

Because I also have to consider things like industry growth vs. global GDP growth, yearly income for four individual companies...and I have to do a SWOT analysis for each company....

And then I have to pick one of the companies and pick twelve countries and use a bunch of random factors to narrow them down to five countries that are the "most viable" for expansion....and divide those five into two different specific markets based on common factors...

It's soooooo boring.

Fortunately, I've already decided on what company I'm going to choose and done the country analysis part, for the most part. That was actually really interesting. It's just tracking down the idiotic little facts about the four companies...and doing the actual SWOT analysis....and writing up the industry trend summary with, like, real sources.

[Wall Bash]

I had a neat post full of possible acronyms for what SWOT could stand for, but I lost them all when Hatrack went kablooey on me.

Um, Standard Warfare Operations Training?

Standard World Optimal Tracking?

Hey, they don't have to make sense, just have to sound nifty. Usually I'm a lot better at the acronym game, but my brain seems to be fried at the moment.

I hate SWOT analyses more than anything.

I took a short break to continue painting my cabinets. I'm going to be very sad when this painting project is finished; it gives me the opportunity to be creative and artistic and detail-obsessed and incredibly focused all at the same time. It's very good stress relief.

Really? Sounds like added stress to me. Much as I love to do the things I am artistically creative at (writing, in my case), it can be just as stressful as it can be stress relief depending on the circumstance.

Just the other day I sat down to try and work on some of the plot outlines and character outlines for my big project and I found I was forcing myself to write when usually it all comes very freely, and the stuff I was coming up with was just horrible an cliche sounding. So I scrapped it all, which wasted an hour or two of my life, and went to work on something else.

Fortunately, while the story writing vibe wasn't there, the music writing vibe was, and I made some decent progress on my musical. Funny how hobbies can be both the one thing that calms me the most, and on the flip side can also be the thing that frustrates me the most.

Well, I'm painting my cabinets the most spectacular color, and whenever I'm stressed out, it really helps me to do something like that. Once, I was really stressed out about work, and I got a bowl of grapes and tried to peel them all with a butterknife in one piece.
